After the Treatment
Unusual experiences
Very common questions after receiving a treatment often end with:
“Is this normal?”
Do not worry — most of what you experience is completely expected.
We have already spoken about the “reiki wind” — the sudden sensation of cold that can appear after a treatment.
This happens because of a shift in our vibration. During a treatment we enter a different, higher state of vibration — similar to deep sleep, yet fully awake. You may remember being awakened suddenly without having had enough rest. That same kind of chill can appear.
It usually disappears once we regain the rhythm of everyday awareness. Until then, it is best to take a blanket, warm yourself gently, and allow yourself time to “return” fully into the body.
Sometimes during a treatment you may feel:
- heaviness in the hands, legs or head
- tingling sensations
- digestive sounds as if you were hungry
- alternating cold and warmth
- a light breeze sensation
- pressure or discomfort in the middle of the forehead
- tingling or sensations in areas that were previously injured
All of these are normal occurrences.
If treatments regularly feel uncomfortable or painful, please inform your therapist. An experienced practitioner can often adjust the process to avoid unnecessary discomfort.
There is no need to suffer. Every sensation or image has meaning, and a person with experience can help interpret it for you. It all depends on individual sensitivity.
Some people feel or see nothing — and that is completely normal. It does not mean that nothing is happening or that you are not receiving the treatment.
Some see colors or images.
Some experience vivid or unpleasant dreams — releasing difficult situations, emotions, or potential losses through dreams instead of through waking life. In that way, certain burdens are processed during sleep and avoided in daily life.
Believe me, it is a great blessing to process heavy situations, emotions, and losses in dreams. Besides healing itself, this may be one of the greatest blessings that reiki offers.
There are hundreds of human stories — none are the same.
Perhaps only similar.
